Back pain is the largest single reported cause of absence from work and leading cause of disability. Sickness absence due to back and neck pain alone accounts for a loss of 1.2 million working days, at a cost of £100 million a year, in small and medium sized businesses.
Can you record your sickness absence accurately?
Do you offer your employees a referral system for fast effective treatment?
Each year:
Average sickness absence in a company of 3000 is 150 employees (5% of workforce) each year, for an average of 2 working weeks, at a cost of £100 per day. Of total days lost, 30% is due to musculo-skeletal problems, and 60% of these are back and neck related. Or put another way: At any given time 1.5% of the workforce will be off due to a musculo-skeletal problem, and 1% due to back and neck related injuries only.
Without chiropractic treatment people with severe low back pain and Repetitive Strain Injuries may have to leave their jobs, and with even milder symptoms they may be in constant pain, or have to take large numbers of days off work every year, or work inefficiently.
Not providing an adequate service for the workforce, may prove false economy.
Chiropractors have worked with numerous companies to significantly reduce sickness absence costs and costs due to lost productivity. They have shown and documented, that employees are often able to remain at work, or return to work within 8 chiropractic treatments. There is good evidence to suggest that chiropractic manipulation is better than placebo and physical modalities for acute low back pain, and strong evidence that chiropractic manipulation works better than placebo, analgesia and GP advice for chronic low back pain. Chiropractic treatment has been shown to produce measurable improvements in levels of pain, disability, anxiety, depression and fear avoidance behaviour.
